Chiropractic Medicine

The knowledge, art, skill and experience of diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of the human structure is what Chiropractic medicine is. Chiropractic adjusting and manipulation, using a variety of structural techniques including Sacral Occipital Technique, Diversified, Cox Flexion-Distraction, is the forte of this office. Using these gentle structural techniques, which addresses the entire body, Dr. Kierstyn is often able to change acute and chronic pain patterns. Learn more about Sacral Occipital Technique, visit www.sorsi.com or www.sotousa.com.

Craniopathy

Sinus concerns and chronic headache patterns are known to resolve and fade with gentle cranial correction. That can be quickly understood but what is not often considered is how influential loosening the jaw problem (TMJ / temporal mandibular joint) - often found with low back, neck and fibromyalgia syndromes – can be in easing pain syndromes and chronic metabolic patterns. Amongst the few chiropractic physicians who have pioneered the knowledge, understanding and skill of cranial adjusting, Dr. Kierstyn has found that chronic diseases respond amazingly well to the neurologic intervention provided by cranial adjusting. To further appreciate this sophisticated level of structural care, explore www.sorsi.com and/or www.sotousa.com.

The biggest contribution that the advanced speciality of craniopathy provides is with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). Anyone who have suffered a concussion of the head or body, whether there is a loss of consciousness or not, correction of the cranial vault will improve nerve and brain function. A decrease of pain patterns, an increase in functionality and an increase in cognitive abilities are the usual results of the gentle cranial corrections provided by craniopathy. Any of our veterans who served in the last wars with the IEDs should receive this type of care after their explosive experiences.

Frequency-Specific MicroCurrent

By using electricity at the extremely low but therapeutic level of the body's meridians, it has been found that the body's tissues can be stimulated to change and, often, to a significant degree. Having been a specialist at this fascinating technology for over 6 years, Dr Kierstyn and her staff continue to be pleasantly surprised at the success accomplished by this cutting edge technology. For further information about this important tool, visit www.frequencyspecific.com

Cox Flexion – Distraction

As one of Dr. Cox's earliest students, Dr. Kierstyn has practiced flexion-distraction for the care and correction of disc, stenosis and other lumbar spine problems for a number of years, Failed Back Surgery Syndromes can be particularly improved through this method of structural correction. (Of course, it is better to correct the disc problem BEFORE surgery.;'-) To read the research on this very effective method of correction, visit www.coxtechnic.com.

Sacral Occipital Technique

Considered by many to be the gold standard of Chiropractic techniques, Sacral Occipital Technique (SOT) is a sophisticated method of manual correction which addresses the entire body. Evolved by Dr. Major DeJarnette during the 1920s, Sacral Occipital Technique is used by practitioners all over the world.

SOT is based on the understanding that the pelvis is the weight-bearing architecture of the body. Within that 3-bone pelvic structure is the sacrum, the actual fulcrum of the body. The sacrum and the occiput – the bone at the back of your head – work synchronously as the Sacral-Occipital pump . This pump mechanism is responsible for the rhythmic movement of the Cerebral Spinal Fluid flow (CSF) through the skull and the spinal canal, creating a pulse known as the Universal pulse, empowering nerve flow from the brain and spinal cord to the body and back.

When the pelvis becomes torqued or misaligned, the sacrum will tilt, interefering with the synchonicity of the pump, causing a change of that pulse and flow with nerve flow compromised. A structural cascade of misalignments will – over time – follow including the full spine, the cranium, the shoulder girdle, arms, legs, knees, feet and organs. Yes, even organs can become misaligned…and thereby dysfunctional. (I.E.: Acid Reflux is caused by a stomach misalignment called a Hiatal Hernia.)

As a non-whacken-crackem, low-force/no force, manual, type of technique, SOT treatment is gentle and effective on many types of discomfort and dysfunction. So many common ailments arise from structural misalignment: all types of headaches including migraines as well as sinus problems, shoulder, arm and leg pain or numbness and tingling, back pain, rib pain, disc degeneration and herniation, buttock pain, sciatic pain, knee problems, plantar fascitis, bunions,.. barring trauma, just any kind of pain can arise from structural misalignment. Through the use of Sacral Occipital Technique, every thing mentioned above is correctable, often to the point of elimination.

Having practiced this technique for over 17 years now, Dr. Kierstyn is skilled at its interpretation and application. As one of the few craniopaths in Oregon, she is well known for her ability to quiet headache and sinus patterns. Craniopathy is particularly effective for Mild Traumatic Brain Injury and concussions. Working with the cranium can often change problems that other practitioners have had difficulty addressing.

Acid Reflux or Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) is another condition that is easily addressed and corrected with the use of Sacral Occipital Technique. Structural misalignment patterns can be the cause of this disease. We find it is (often) easily adjusted into non-existence. If you require any of the acid-reducing drugs, you may want to investigate this possibility...BEFORE the metabolic changes those drugs promote begin to occur in your body.

Nutritional Assessment

Nutritional deficiencies are rampant in our country .... many of our diseases are often a reflection of those deficiencies. As a result of these deficiencies, healing patterns are often slow to occur. Should trauma become a part of the the picture, adequate nutrition is a must if that body is to return anytime soon.

During her years as an acute-care RN, Dr. Kierstyn became very aware of the importance of nutritional support on the rate and degree of healing. Her One-Page Lessons have become a major hit because of the way you quickly learn what you need to get your body humming and healing up a storm!

One Page Lessons

As a part of your treatment plan, at each visit, Dr. Kierstyn will provide a series of what she calls her 'One Page Lessons'. (Though a couple of them, she reluctantly admits, are a page or two more than one.;'-)

Designed to improve and speed your rate of healing, these bits of information are focused on the nutritional and strengthening needs of your neuromusculoskeletal system...the joint, bone, muscle, nerve, disc, structure and nutritional problems that brought you to our clinic.

Using these lessons, and sometimes websites or CDs, she will share cogent information for your nutritional needs, exercise needs, sleep needs, postural needs, neurologically strengthening exercises, accident prevention behaviors ...all the things that keep you feeling comfortable in your body as you begin to feel comfortable in your body.

“We need to teach you the things we can't do for you....the things your body needs to support the chiropractic structural care you are receiving. This is the 'how to get you holding better, faster' part.”

You can't get the body healed without correcting both the structural and the nutritional status. “Treating only one will get you to a wall every time”, she has been heard to say. “It wasn't until we started putting both (structural and nutritional) needs into our treatment plans did we begin to get the level of patient success we are enjoying these days."

The Natural Korner

This on-site natural nutrient store provides convenience for many of Dr. Kierstyn's patients. Taste tests for many products are available upon request allowing you to make an informed choice on just which product is right for you.

Treatment Plans

Most of Dr. Kierstyn's structural and nutritional treatment plans range from two weeks to 3 months, in length, with the exception of fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia treatment plans can range from four to twelve months with four to eight being the average.

Rarely does Dr. Kierstyn need to see a person every day for more than one week and that most often would be for a new motor vehicle accident or a very, very ill metabolic syndrome patient who has waited too long before coming to see her. However, it is not uncommon for her to see a person three times a week for one to two weeks as they initially start. She will then generally see a person twice a week for one to six weeks (six weeks is a long run for her) , depending on how severe a person is or how slowly they heal (...which is what is behind her strong and early use of solid nutrition ... to kick that healing factor in its a, uh, actual place where it works at normal to high gear pace!)
